Visa Processing Steps
Step 1 - Gather Required Documents
1. Passport
a. Must be valid for at least 18 months. The consulate reserves the right to deny visas to passports that are valid for less than 18 months
b. Must have at least 2 blank “visa” pages. Endorsement pages in the back do not count.
c. Must be signed – visas will not be issued to unsigned passports.
2. Passport bio-page
a. Must be a JPG which can be uploaded
b. Include both current passport bio-page and previous passport bio-page if the old passport contained a Chinese visa
3. Current photo
a. Must be a JPG which can be uploaded
b. Cannot be the same photo as in passport
c. Must be taken against a pure WHITE background. Photos displaying non-white background are subject to consular scrutiny.
d. Must be a frontal view to the camera with the entire head and face clearly visible
e. Facial features must be clearly visible. No harsh shadows on face.
f. Must have been taken within the last 6 months
g. Must be a high-quality photo. Photos that are too pixilated or blurry will be rejected
4. Last two (2) Chinese Visa(s) or Residence Permit(s) (if applicable)
a. Must be a JPG which can be uploaded
5. Proof of residence
a. Must be a JPG which can be uploaded
b. Color copy of driver’s license or utility bill are acceptable
6. Completed “Visa Application Statement”
a. Print and complete the form located at https://us.china-embassy.gov.cn/chn/lsfw/zj/qz/material/appen-visa-statement.pdf
b. Sign the form
c. Make a JPG which can be uploaded
7. Letter of Invitation from inviting organization in China (if applicable)
a. Please note: Letter of Invitation is still required if visiting the Chinese branch of your organization)
b. Must be on company letterhead
c. Must be addressed to “Consulate of The People’s Republic China”
d. MUST INCLUDE COMPANY'S OFFICIAL RED SEAL STAMP AND AUTHORIZED SIGNATURE AND MUST CONTAIN THE FOLLOWING INFORMATION:
(1) Personal information of the invitee:
(a) Name - Traveler’s full name must be included. Missing middle names may result in rejection of visa request.
(b) Gender
(c) Date of birth
(d) Passport number
(2) Information about the invitee’s visit to China:
(a) Reason for coming to China
(b) Date of arrival
(c) Date of departure
(d) Place of visit
(e) Relationship with the inviter or inviting unit
(f) Who will pay for the travel
(3) Inviting party information (must be included in the text of the invitation letter):
(a) Inviting party name
(b) Address
(c) Telephone number
(d) Official seal
(e) Legal representative or inviter’s signature and date
Step 2 – Complete the Chinese Visa Application Online
https://consular.mfa.gov.cn/VISA/
a. Read prompts carefully info must be true, accurate, complete
b. Location: Choose correct consulate
Chicago: IL, IN, IA, KS, MI, MN, WI, NE, ND, SD
Washington DC: DC, MD, VA, WV, NC, SC, KY, TN, DE, AL, AR, FL, GA, LA, MS, OK, TX, PR
New York: CT, MN, MA, NH, NJ, NY, OH, PA, VT, RI
Los Angeles: SoCAL, AZ, NM, UT, CO, HI, Pacific Islands
San Francisco: NoCAL, AK, NV, OR, WA, ID, MT, WY
c. Personal info: Must match passport exactly
d. If born in China (incl. HK, Macao, Taiwan):
(1) Enter native name in Chinese characters
(2) Mark “Yes” for former nationality
e. Work & Education:
(1) Complete work history post-graduation
(2) Fill in positions, duties, degrees, majors
f. Addresses:
Spouse, parents, current address (full details)
g. If selecting “Not Applicable,” state reason
Step 3 – Upload Documents
Upload all required documents to Chinese Visa Application portal
Step 4 – Submit for Review to Chinese Consulate
Review by the Chinese Consulate normally takes 24–48 hours
Step 5 – Check Status
1. Use same link as above: https://consular.mfa.gov.cn/VISA/
2. Status bar will show “Okay to Submit”
3. Print page containing Barcode and Status Bar
Step 6 – Prepare Visas & Passports 2 Go, Inc Order Form
1. Use the “cart” below - or –
2. Complete the form provided at https://vp2go.com/pdfs/visa/VP2GoVisaOrderForm.pdf
Step 7 – Send package to Visas & Passports 2 Go, Inc. Include the following:
1. Visas & Passports 2 Go, Inc Order Form from step 6 above
2. Passport
3. Printed copy of barcode and Status Bar from step 5 above

Additional Visa/Consular Processing Information
- Non-US Passports may be issued a visa that is less that ten years validity as well as a limited number of entries.
